Operating Group Director Integrated Construction & Virtual Design & Construction
Chase Roles is the Operating Group Director of Virtual Design and Construction with the Solar Energy Group of Mortenson. His “why” is to transform VDC individual contributors into integration leaders through effective partnership and coaching.
Roles’ His background includes building new VDC integration teams, crafting strategic vision and execution plans, and creating a high performance teaming culture with a design-build integration mindset. Working out of both Phoenix and Minneapolis, Roles has helped grow the Mortenson team from two to 11 team members over the past three years, supporting over $1B of work nationally.
His project leadership experience includes solar, renewable energy infrastructure, mixed-use commercial, themed entertainment, hotels, and government work. Previously, Roles held multiple field and office roles with a VDC focus at Walt Disney Imagineering and Universal Creative. He has both international and domestic leadership experience supporting jobs in China and the U.S.
Roles holds a Bachelors in Architecture and Minor in Integrated Project Delivery/Construction Management from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Master’s in Organizational Change and Development from Penn State, Graduate VDC Certificate from Center for Integrated Facilities Engineering (CIFE) Stanford, and a professional Design-Build accreditation from Design-Build Institute of America.

- Discussing why VDC must move beyond BIM and clash detection to include construction workflows, field QC, robotics support, and project handover, and how evolving project scales and delivery methods are creating more opportunity for holistic VDC involvement
